The NeverEnding Story. Part 2 of 3.
Spiritual Version.
Atreyu states that his name means: Son of All. Bastian considers that instead, he is
the son of no one: Atreyu represents
the Christian, who knows he has a Heavenly Father who loves him and welcomes him as a true son. On the
contrary, Bastian doesn’t believe in
God, feels alone... and mistakenly
thinks that his life is an endless series of actions that have no value for
eternity. In addition to the rest, people who don’t have Faith, don’t perceive a brother
in their neighbor; but on the contrary... they see people as strangers who
wander around the world, without a true purpose. Ultimately, the true believer
(Atreyu), knows well that every behavior or word, helps him to find, after earthly death, a family composed of God, Holy Mary, his relatives
and the angels. Furthermore, the
believer perceiving brothers in his neighbor, helps them with prayer, actions and good advice.
Bastian thinks that he
doesn’t resemble Atreyu in the
least, since he doesn’t have his courage, his determination and not even his
physique: Bastian portrays the
individual who, when he reads the lives of the Saints or Prophets,
realizes that the spiritual journey is still long. In fact, the Saints and
Prophets lived their lives full of
virtues, and rich in behaviors consistent with the Ten Commandments. In essence, the lives of the Saints become a reference
model for all believers; who realize that it’s necessary to "practice" the virtues and
obedience to the Ten Commandments.
However, there is no need to despair; since earthly life is a series of tests, which help us understand how to
improve and not fall into the same mistakes. With the help of the Sacraments, prayer and good will, we
must get up after every fall... and resume the journey towards holiness.
The horse Artax, with every step he takes in the swamps of sadness, has no
more hope. And as if that were not
enough... melancholy grows in his
heart. In the end, Artax sinks into the Swamp:
How can we not be depressed, when we
sink into the "Swamp" of Sin? But in reality, what causes this
subtle and poignant sadness? Our soul...
which, aware of the tragic situation into which the selfish Ego has led it, cannot help but express feelings of melancholy. Feelings that will pervade
the whole person; because let us not forget... we cannot be serene and full of joy, if we go
against the rules and precepts that we have engraved in our hearts. Moral rules help us understand that
stealing is bad, lying is not allowed, being lustful is a sin against true
love, not praising and thanking the Lord
for the gifts He has given us... is
not being loving children, and so on. All these wonderful moral essences, show us the right
path to follow to reach the point of loving
with truth and serenity… ourselves, God
and our neighbor. It’s no coincidence, that when we transgress these just and
fair behavioral norms, what happens? Simple… anger, hatred, revenge, disappointment, sadness, depression, discontent
spread throughout the world. Let us try to think… will the robbed person not
experience feelings of disappointment and sadness, for what he or she has lost?
Will the person who discovers that his or her spouse is a lustful traitor… not
seek separation from the spouse, with the consequent suffering of the children? When we don’t praise God for the gifts that He given us in abundance, do we not
risk becoming idolaters, and consequently… do we begin to worship money,
gambling, unbridled sex, politicians, sports and so on? It’s also important to
remember, that if we understand that we have transgressed… we must not be
discouraged; but we can ask the Lord
for help, through the Sacrament of Penance. On the contrary,
if we remain in a state of sin, we
risk sinking our soul (Artax) into
despair (sinking in the Swamp). From
what has just been stated, we can understand that we must NOT trust in our own
strength or in those of those who follow modernism; otherwise we risk falling into the eternal abyss (Artax sinking in the Swamp).
Atreyu meets the very old Morla. Morla declares to Atreyu, that
the Childlike Empress needs a new name; because she has so many
names, but unfortunately they have all been forgotten. To be brief, the
Childlike Empress without a name… cannot
live: Isn’t it perhaps the Most Holy
Mary who is called in the Litanies,
with multiple names? For example, Queen of Peace, Rock of David, Mother of the Church and so on. But how
many, remember to call her name and pray to her? Let’s tell the truth… few.
In short, to make our soul (Childlike
Empress) live, we have to call the name
of Mary; true mediator with God; to extinguish the “Nothing” of sin from our hearts. And who… if not The Wisdom of God (Morla),
can express such a sublime concept and truthfulness? Isn’t it perhaps the Wisdom of the Lord, an essence as ancient as eternity?
The Childlike Empress also represents the soul of a person who, by refusing to comply with the teachings of love that God bestows… inexorably erases her own “Name” from the elect of
Heaven. In addition to the fact that when, with our free will, we decide to
comply with evil and multiform vices, in the secret of our heart… we erase the Name of Jesus.
In the darkness of the deep
abyss, Atreyu meets Falkor the
dragon of fortune, who is entangled
in a huge spider web. The dragon is
a wonderful creature, which brings joy and happiness;
and it can even fly: The concept is very simple, when we are sunk in sin (spider web), suddenly our eternal enemy envelops us through despair, with the intent of making us
forget that God is love and hope. In fact, when we no longer believe in the Mercy of God, an inexorable sense of
confusion springs from the heart, which doesn’t allow us to turn our gaze to
the Lord to ask for His support and forgiveness. Nonetheless, Michael
Ende reminds us that even in moments of discouragement, we must not forget
the virtue of hope, portrayed with
truthfulness… in the figure of the dragon
Falkor.
The horrible creature Ygramul, who is called… The Many, because it’s made up of
numerous insects, often changes shape. Ygramul ardently wants to destroy the
dragon Falkor: Although many people
don’t believe in the existence of Satan (Ygramul)…
the reality of the facts reveals to us that one of the favorite traps of our
eternal enemy is precisely that of making people believe… that he doesn’t exist. Just like a snake,
Satan slowly insinuates himself into hearts, clouding minds with his very subtle lies. After all, how can we
forget the numerous types of vices,
such as greed, anger, pride? In short, the devil cunningly… just like Ygramul, offers us the vice that most tempts our palate. In
this way, sins and transgressions are visualized as examples to follow and
stalk. While regarding the existence of Satan, it’s thought that it’s only a
legend… or a nonsense from a medieval era.
Ygramul, who longs to
destroy the dragon of fortune Falkor,
symbolizes despair; which seeks to
suppress hope (dragon of fortune Falkor). Simply put, the message that Michael Ende proposes… is not to be
discouraged when situations and contingencies of life are to our disadvantage.
Ygramul declares to Atreyu that if he wants to reach the
southern oracle, he must be bitten.
This is because its poison kills in
the space of an hour, but at the same time… it grants the power to instantly
move to any region of Fàntasia: The cunning infernal serpent (Ygramul), continues to utter the
ancient chant… if we bite sin and
its bewitching poison, it will give
us happiness and freedom. The most common phrases, that we hear in this
horrendous era full of hedonism? Bite
the apple of lust, and you will be free to express your power as an evolved and
emancipated person. Bite the apple of arrogance, and everyone will crawl at
your feet. Bite the apple of money, and you will have all the riches of the
Earth (of Fàntasia). Bite the apple
of lies, you will see how easy it will be to push away the laws that that
annoying truth… continues to insistently present. Bite the apple of slander,
you will see how people will follow you. Bite the apple of human science, you will see how easy it will be to understand that
man is an evolved ape... and we could continue endlessly. In short, hungry for lusts, the human being
prostrates himself in the service of the carnal
senses, forgetting his origin and his purpose: ...to reach God.
Atreyu must pass through three magic doors. In the first door,
which is called the door of the great enigma… there are two Sphinxes; and we can only cross it when the Sphinxes close their eyes; otherwise we can turn
to stone. This is because the
Sphinxes see through their eyes, all the enigmas of the world… even though they
are blind. This is why the Sphinxes look at each other, because only a Sphinx
can sustain the gaze of another
Sphinx: All the doors that Atreyu must cross, symbolize Jesus. Ultimately, we must not forget
that earthly life, is a trial to test
our virtues; and to show God how
much we love Him. At the same time,
the two Sphinxes, are an allegory of
the powerful and enormous lies and heresies, that come out of the heretics of
our time. We can cross the door,
only when the two Sphinxes close their eyes... all this reminds us that only
when we close the "eyes"
of our intellect to heresies, will we be able to reach true Wisdom. Otherwise we will become stone, that is to say... blocked and
immobile in the false theories, that
the materialistic world proposes to
us with stubbornness. Let's try to reflect... isn't it when we stuff our mind
with injustice and falsehood, that we block
ourselves (become stone)? We
block what? The reaching towards the truth.
. The Sphinxes pronounce numerous enigmas even though they are blind...
and aren't perhaps the false wise men
and the scientists too rational,
that even though they are blind to
celestial realities, say enigmatic theories... such as, for example, in
affirming that fetuses are not
living beings? Michael Ende's
wonderful story reminds us not to pay too much attention to purely human science, which as we have
often reported other times, gives out multiple
lies and hypocritical truths.
Only a Sphinx can sustain the
gaze of another Sphinx... only those who are absorbed by the realities of hedonism, can look in the face those
who follow the same lies and foolishness. It’s no coincidence, that those who
disobey and rebel against the truth, automatically become idolaters. And those who remain under idolatry (two Sphinxes), become cold and glacial... just like stone statues.
Atreyu passes through the first door, keeping his gaze down… and continues to walk
despite his fear. In the end, Atreyu
manages to cross the first door: Atreyu,
who manages to pass through the first
door, embodies the humble and
fair person, who enters the heart of
Jesus. The virtue of humility,
is noted when Atreyu lowers his gaze. And Atreyu who despite his fear…
goes forward anyway, reminds us that even in difficulties and suffering, we
must not give up on following the
path of righteousness.
In the Second door, Atreyu
comes across a magic mirror. In the mirror,
Atreyu sees his inner self… as it
really is: When we listen to the word of
God, we need to put it into practice;
and not observe it externally, and then forget it. Here it’s appropriate to
enter into the word… and live it.
Only in this way, we will experience love
for Jesus. It’s no coincidence, that sometimes we can see families who have
homes full of sacred portraits. Only to sadly discover, that these same
families… don’t follow the virtues or the Ten Commandments. Ultimately, we think we are Christians, just because we believe in the existence of God. But let us remember… that even demons believe in God… but they disobey His loving teachings and laws. In a word… we need to be consistent when we make a certain choice… otherwise we are just hypocrites.
Often, the “mirrors” that have helped us to
undertake a journey of Faith, have
been our family, friends and acquaintances. In other words, it’s necessary to recover their
teachings and suggestions, and
internalize them within ourselves… and then make them living works.

La Storia Infinita. Parte 2 di 3.
Versante Spirituale.
Atreyu afferma che il suo nome,
significa: Figlio di Tutti. Bastian
considera che invece, lui è figlio di nessuno:
Atreyu raffigura il cristiano, il quale sa di avere un Padre Celeste che lo ama e accoglie come un vero figlio. Al
contrario, Bastian non credendo in Dio, si sente solo… e pensa
erroneamente che la sua vita, sia una serie infinita di azioni che non hanno
alcun valore per l’eternità. Oltre al resto, le persone che non hanno la Fede, non percepiscono nel prossimo un
fratello; ma al contrario… scorgono le persone come sconosciuti che vagano per
il mondo, senza un vero scopo. In definitiva, il vero credente (Atreyu), sa bene che ogni comportamento
o parola, lo aiutano a ritrovare, dopo la morte terrena, una famiglia composta da Dio, Maria Santissima, i propri parenti
e gli angeli. Inoltre, il credente percependo nel prossimo dei
fratelli, li aiuta con la preghiera,
le azioni e buoni consigli.
Bastian pensa che non assomiglia minimamente ad Atreyu, poiché non ha il suo coraggio,
la sua decisione e nemmeno il suo fisico: Bastian
effigia l’individuo che nel momento in cui legge la vita dei Santi o Profeti, si accorge che il cammino spirituale è ancora lungo. In
effetti, i Santi e Profeti hanno vissuto la loro vita colma di virtù, e ricca
di comportamenti consoni ai Dieci Comandamenti.
In sostanza, la vita dei Santi diviene un modello
di riferimento per tutti i credenti; i quali si accorgono che necessita “esercitarsi” nelle virtù e nell’obbedienza ai Dieci Comandamenti. Tuttavia, non
occorre disperare; poiché la vita terrena è una serie di prove, che ci aiutano a comprendere come migliorare e non
precipitare negli stessi errori. Con l'aiuto dei Sacramenti, della preghiera
e la buona volontà, occorre
rialzarsi dopo ogni caduta… e riprendere il cammino verso la santità.
Il cavallo Artax
ad ogni passo che compie nelle paludi della tristezza, non ha più speranza. E come se non bastasse… gli
cresce nel cuore la malinconia. Alla
fine, Artax affonda nella Palude: Come non possiamo essere accasciati, quando
affondiamo nelle “sabbie mobili” del Peccato?
Ma in realtà, cosa provoca questa sottile e struggente tristezza? La nostra anima…
la quale consapevole della situazione tragica in cui l’Io egoista l’ha condotta, non può che esprimere sentimenti di malinconia. Sentimenti che pervaderanno
tutta la persona; poiché non scordiamolo… non possiamo essere sereni e colmi di
gioia, se andiamo contro le norme e
precetti che abbiamo inciso nel cuore.
Le norme morali ci aiutano a
comprendere che rubare è male, mentire non è lecito, essere lussuriosi è un
peccato contro il vero amore, non
lodare e ringraziare il Signore dei
doni che ci ha elargito… non è essere dei figli amorevoli, e via dicendo. Tutte
queste meravigliose essenze morali, ci indicano la strada giusta da seguire per giungere ad amare con verità e serenità… noi stessi, Dio e il nostro prossimo. Non a caso, quando trasgrediamo a queste
giuste ed eque norme comportamentali, che cosa avviene? Semplice… si espande
nel mondo la rabbia, l’odio, la vendetta, la delusione, la
tristezza, la depressione, il malcontento. Proviamo a riflettere… la persona
derubata, non proverà sentimenti di delusione e tristezza, per ciò che ha
perso? La persona che scopre che il proprio coniuge è un lussurioso traditore,
non cercherà la separazione dal coniuge, con la conseguente sofferenza dei
figli? Quando non si loda Dio dei
doni che ci ha elargito in abbondanza, non rischiamo di divenire idolatri, e di conseguenza… cominciamo
a venerare il denaro, il gioco
d’azzardo, il sesso sfrenato, i politici, lo sport e via dicendo?
È altresì importante rammentare, che se comprendiamo di
avere trasgredito… non ci dobbiamo scoraggiare; ma possiamo chiedere aiuto al Signore mediante il Sacramento della Penitenza. Al contrario, se rimaniamo in uno stato di peccato,
rischiamo di sprofondare la nostra anima (Artax)
nella disperazione (affondare nella Palude).
Da quanto appena enunciato, possiamo comprendere che NON dobbiamo confidare nelle nostre forze o su quelle di coloro che
seguono il modernismo; altrimenti rischiamo di precipitare nell’abisso eterno (Artax che affonda nella Palude).
Atreyu incontra la vecchissima Morla. Morla
dichiara ad Atreyu, che l'Infanta Imperatrice ha bisogno di un nuovo nome; poiché lei di nomi ne ha
tanti, ma purtroppo sono stati tutti dimenticati.
Per farsi breve, l'Infanta Imperatrice senza un nome… non può vivere: Non è
forse Maria Santissima ad essere
chiamata nelle Litanie, con
molteplici nomi? Ad esempio, Regina
della Pace, Rocca di Davide, Madre della Chiesa e così via. Ma quanti si ricordano di chiamare il suo nome e pregarla? Diciamo la verità… pochi. Insomma, per far vivere la nostra anima (Infanta Imperatrice),
non dobbiamo far altro che chiamare il nome di Maria; vera mediatrice presso Dio;
per estinguere il “Nulla” del
peccato dai nostri cuori. E chi… se non La Sapienza
di Dio (Morla), può esprimere un
concetto ed una veridicità così sublime? Non è forse la Sapienza del Signore,
un’essenza antichissima quanto l'eternità?
L’Infanta
Imperatrice raffigura altresì l'anima
di una persona, la quale rifiutandosi di accondiscendere agli insegnamenti di
amore che Dio elargisce… cancella
inesorabilmente il proprio “Nome”
dagli eletti del Cielo. Oltre al
fatto, che quando con il nostro libero
arbitrio, decidiamo di accondiscendere al male e ai vizi multiformi, nel
segreto del nostro cuore… cancelliamo il Nome
di Gesù.
Nell’oscurità del profondo abisso, Atreyu incontra Fùcur il
drago della fortuna, il quale è impigliato in un’enorme ragnatela. Il drago è una meravigliosa creatura, che porta gioia e felicità; e può persino volare:
Il concetto è molto semplice, quando siamo inabissati nel peccato (ragnatela), subitamente ci avviluppa il
nostro eterno nemico mediante la disperazione, con l'intento di farci scordare
che Dio è amore e speranza.
Difatti, quando non si crede più nella Misericordia
di Dio, ecco che sgorga dal cuore
un’inesorabile senso di smarrimento,
che non concede di volgere lo sguardo al Signore
per chiedere il Suo sostegno e
perdono. Ciò nondimeno, Michael Ende ci rammenta che anche nei momenti
di scoraggiamento, non dobbiamo dimenticare la virtù della speranza, effigiata con veridicità… della figura del drago Fùcur.
L’orribile creatura Ygramul, la quale viene chiamata… Le Molte, poiché formata da numerosissimi insetti, cambia forma spesso. Ygramul
vuole ardentemente distruggere il drago Fùcur:
Nonostante svariate persone non credono all'esistenza di Satana (Ygramul)… la realtà dei fatti ci rivela
come una delle trappole preferite
dal nostro eterno nemico, è proprio quella di far credere… che egli non esiste. Proprio come un serpente, Satana si insinua lentamente
nei cuori, annebbiando le menti con le sue sottilissime menzogne. D'altronde, come dimenticare le numerosissime tipologie
di vizi, come l'avarizia, l’ira, la
superbia? Insomma, il demonio furbamente… proprio come Ygramul, ci propina il
vizio che alletta di più il nostro palato. In questo modo, i peccati e le
trasgressioni, sono visualizzate come esempi da seguire e tallonare. Mentre
riguardo all'esistenza di Satana, si pensa che sia soltanto una leggenda…
oppure una fandonia proveniente da un'epoca medievale.
Ygramul che agogna distruggere il drago della fortuna Fùcur, simboleggia la disperazione;
la quale cerca di sopprimere la speranza
(drago della fortuna Fùcur). In
parole povere, il messaggio che Michael
Ende propone… è di non abbattersi quando le situazioni e
contingenze della vita, sono a nostro svantaggio.
Ygramul dichiara ad Atreyu che se
vuole raggiungere l'oracolo meridionale, deve farsi mordere. Questo perché il suo veleno
uccide nello spazio di un'ora, ma allo stesso tempo… conferisce il potere di
trasferirsi all'istante in qualunque regione di Fàntasia: L’astuta serpe
infernale (Ygramul), ci continua a
proferire l'antica nenia… se mordiamo
il peccato e il suo ammaliante veleno, esso ci donerà la felicità e la
libertà. Le frasi più comuni, che si sentono dire in questa orrenda epoca colma
di edonismo? Mordete la mela della lussuria, e sarete liberi di esprimere la
vostra potenza di persone evolute ed emancipate. Mordete la mela della
prepotenza, e tutti strisceranno ai vostri piedi. Mordete la mela del denaro, e
avrete tutte le ricchezze della Terra (di Fàntasia). Mordete la mela della
menzogna, vedrete come sarà facile allontanare le leggi che quella fastidiosa verità… continua a presentare con
insistenza. Mordete la mela della calunnia, vedrete come le persone vi
seguiranno. Mordete la mela della scienza umana, vedrete come sarà semplice
comprendere che l'uomo è una scimmia evoluta… e si potrebbe continuare
all'infinito. In breve, affamati di concupiscenze, l'essere umano si prostra a servizio dei sensi carnali, dimenticando la sua
origine e il suo fine: …raggiungere Dio.
Atreyu deve oltrepassare tre porte
magiche. Nella prima porta, che si chiama porta del grande enigma… ci sono due Sfingi; e si può varcarla solo
quando lo Sfingi chiudono gli occhi; altrimenti si può divenire di pietra. Questo poiché le Sfingi vedono
dai loro occhi, tutti gli enigmi del mondo… pur essendo cieche. Ecco perché le Sfingi si guardano in faccia, perché solo
una Sfinge può sostenere lo sguardo di un'altra Sfinge: Tutte le porte che deve varcare Atreyu, simboleggiano Gesù. In definitiva, non dobbiamo
scordare che la vita terrena, è una prova
per saggiare le nostre virtù; e
dimostrare a Dio quanto lo amiamo. Al contempo, le due Sfingi, sono un'allegoria delle
possenti ed enormi menzogne ed eresie, che fuoriescono dagli eretici del nostro
tempo.
Si può varcare la porta, solo quando le due Sfingi chiudono gli occhi… tutto
questo ci ricorda che solo quando chiudiamo
gli “occhi” del nostro intelletto
alle eresie, riusciremo a raggiungere la vera
Sapienza. Diversamente diverremo di pietra,
vale a dire… bloccati ed immobili nelle false teorie, che il mondo materialista
ci propone con caparbietà. Proviamo a riflettere… non è forse quando imbottiamo
la nostra mente di ingiustizia e falsità, che ci blocchiamo (divenire di pietra)? Blocchiamo cosa? Il
raggiungimento verso la verità.
. Le Sfingi
pronunciano numerosi enigmi pur
essendo cieche… e non sono forse i
falsi sapienti e gli scienziati troppo
raziocinanti, che pur essendo ciechi alle realtà celesti, dicono
enigmatiche teorie… come ad esempio, nell'affermare che i feti non sono esseri viventi? Il meraviglioso racconto di Michael Ende ci ricorda quindi, di non prestare troppa attenzione alla
scienza prettamente umana, la quale come spesso abbiamo riferito altre volte,
elargisce molteplici menzogne e
ipocrite verità.
Solo una Sfinge può sostenere lo sguardo di un'altra
Sfinge… esclusivamente chi si fa assorbire dalle realtà dell’edonismo, può guardare in faccia coloro
che tallonano le stesse menzogne e stoltezze. Non a caso, coloro che
disobbediscono e si ribellano alla verità,
divengono automaticamente degli idolatri.
E chi rimane sotto l'idolatria (due
Sfingi) diviene freddo e glaciale…
proprio come delle statue di pietra.
Atreyu passa dalla prima porta, tenendo lo sguardo basso… e continua a camminare nonostante la paura. Alla fine, Atreyu riesce a
varcare la prima porta: Atreyu che
riesce ad oltrepassare la prima porta, effigia la persona umile ed equa, che entra nel cuore
di Gesù. La virtù dell'umiltà, la si nota quando Atreyu abbassa lo sguardo. E Atreyu che
nonostante la paura… va avanti lo stesso, ci rammenta che persino nelle
difficoltà e nella sofferenza, non bisogna desistere dal seguire la via della rettitudine.
Nella Seconda porta, Atreyu si imbatte in uno specchio
magico. Nello specchio Atreyu
scorge il suo Io interiore… com’è in
realtà: Quando si ascolta la parola di Dio,
necessita metterla in pratica; e non osservarla esteriormente, per poi
dimenticarla. Ecco che è opportuno entrare nella parola… e viverla. Solo così, si sperimenterà l'amore per Gesù. Non a
caso, alcune volte possiamo scorgere famiglie che hanno le abitazioni colme di
ritratti sacri. Per poi tristemente scoprire, che queste stesse famiglie… non
seguono le virtù o i Dieci Comandamenti.
In definitiva, si pensa di essere cristiani, solo perché si crede
nell’esistenza di Dio. Ma
rammentiamoci, che anche i demoni credono in Dio… ma disobbediscono ai Suoi
amorevoli insegnamenti e leggi. In una parola… occorre essere coerenti quando si compie una
determinata scelta… altrimenti siamo solo degli ipocriti.
Sovente, gli “specchi”
che ci hanno aiutato a intraprendere un percorso di Fede, sono stati i nostri familiari, amici e conoscenti. In altri
termini, è necessario recuperare i loro insegnamenti e suggerimenti, ed
introiettarli nel nostro intimo… per poi renderli opere vive.
