The NeverEnding Story. Part 3 of 3.

Psychology Version.

Some who thought they were more confident, after seeing a grin in the mirror... have fled in terror: The narrative reminds us that if we haven't developed our true identity, we no longer recognize ourselves. And we run away, far from ourselves; a concept contemplated by psychologist Joseph Nicolosi, when he talks about the gay person who carries out a defensive detachment. In short, how can a child identify with a domineering and insensitive father? It's a bit like walking alongside an enormous and stony... sphinx.

And when we try to look inside ourselves (in the mirror), what will we see? A biting grin... just like the sarcastic smile that the educator gave his son, every time he made a mistake or failed at some task. In fact, sometimes parents of people with identity issues, tend to point out their own mistakes and errors in their offspring; conversely, they act like "sphinxes" when it's necessary to offer advice, suggestions, and recognition. From this disheartening family picture, are we surprised that there are people with identity issues?

Atreyu, having passed through the mirror, loses all memory of himself and his intentions: But then, what does Atreyu-Bastian see in his father? Nervousness and disinterest. All essences, that prevent a child (Atreyu-Bastian), from harmoniously internalizing the father figure. This shows us how a "Defensive Detachment" has developed in the unconscious, preventing a balanced and harmonious relationship with the father figure. In short, Atreyu-Bastian glimpses in the "mirror" how his father has always made him feel... a nobody; and also, Atreyu has been forced to eliminate, or rather push away, his sensitive side full of creativity (Bastian), which, let's not forget... is full of imagination and inspiration.

In this context, Atreyu entering in the "mirror" where Bastian is reflected… represents the gay person who seeks in his partner, that side of himself that was previously obliterated and annihilated, and had no opportunity to progress and develop. Ultimately, same-sex sexual relations are sometimes an unconscious way to rediscover that lost side of oneself; with the vain hope of finding that inner unity (Atreyu-Bastian), which unfortunately has not had the opportunity to fully materialize.

Atreyu, having passed through the mirror, loses all memory of himself and his intentions: In this circumstance, Atreyu is the person who, from a young age, in order to survive... was forced to transform his "True Self", mystifying it into a new fictitious identity.

The final door (a door without a key and made of fantastic selenium, an indestructible substance) reacts to the person's will. It’s precisely this will, that makes it so rigid. But if one manages to forget any intention of passing through, then the door opens: One of the reasons why gay people fail to achieve a sexuality directed towards the opposite sex, often lies in unresolved family issues. Essentially, since childhood, dark forces have been at work, that have deviated the identity... from its true destination. And what are these dark forces? One of these, is fear. Let's look at some examples. In childhood, one may have experienced anxiety and fear about becoming like one's father, who was too aggressive, unjust or violent. Other times, one may have feared betraying the expectations of a castrating mother, who scrutinized her son's girlfriends as potential harpies... intent on stealing her son away. And that terrible fear of not being up to that masculine role, which for so many years has been debased and rejected by parents? In short, fear can very well hinder the healthy development of one's sexual identity.

Atreyu speaks with the oracle Uyulala. We can hear her voice... but we can't see her; because she is invisible. Uyulala explains to Atreyu, that only someone who comes from the "Outside World" can assign a “Name” to the Childlike Empress: To achieve a healthy and balanced identity (Name to the Childlike Empress), we need someone "outside" of ourselves (Outside World), to reassure us, hold our hand, and give us self-confidence. And who are these individuals, who can help us develop our personality? Simple... our parents. The "Name" given to the Childlike Empress, embodies the gift of trust and serenity to a child, when we welcome him with love and respect. In this way, the personality of the descendant, will develop into a vigorous and balanced identity.

Atreyu arrives in the "Spook City" and meets the werewolf called Gmork. Gmork is chained, and the town is strangely deserted: People who have had family members whose love was absent or precarious, risk finding themselves latently in a desolate "Spook City" devoid of love. In this narrative context, where people find themselves without an inner compass to accept and love themselves, a terrible enemy can develop... the "False Self" (Gmork). The desolation of the "Spook City", symbolizes the inner desert of those who have not been welcomed and loved by their families.

The citizens of the "Spook City" fled... because they no longer had Hope. And having no hope weakens creatures. In fact, "The Nothing" has a great power of attraction: From an analytical perspective, we can recall how a child who has not been welcomed and respected for who he truly is in his family environment... begins to lose hope of developing a healthy individuality. Thus, just like the citizens of the "Spook City", his "True Self" begins to disintegrate and escape into the depths of the unconscious. And the child, risks building a fictitious personality, one that is unable to satisfy parental expectations. This artificial personality is depicted in the story... by the "The Nothing" that wishes to destroy the kingdom of Fantasia (real personality).

Entering in the "The Nothing" is like being blind, and one can no longer distinguish appearance from reality. But once one passes through the "The Nothing", one becomes unrecognizable. The population of the city who have fallen into the "The Nothing", become obsessions and fixed ideas in the minds of men; or images of anguish and despair: Exactly as described in Michael Ende's story, those who are forced from an early age to develop and build a "False Self", live their existence like blind people "surviving" with a personality that is not their own. Essentially, the "False Self" is a psychic aggregate filled with distorted notions and rules, imposed by family members... resulting in a failure to live one's psychic existence in a harmonious way.

Ultimately, the obsessions and fixed ideas described in the story, highlight how those who have cultivated a false personality... will have psychological problems that transform into states of excessive anxiety and anguish; at the same time… reality will be viewed in a distorted and altered way. One of the very common consequences, is misinterpreting the attitudes and words of others, scrutinizing them and almost always perceiving them… as negative essences seeking to destabilize. All this happens, because we project onto others… the castrating and coercive attitudes we suffered in childhood from our own educators. Ultimately, the people we encounter in our lives, become living mirrors… reflecting the frustrating and misleading attitudes of our family members.

Gmork declares that men fear the realm of Fantasia, and they want to destroy it… thus increasing the flow of lies pouring into the world of men. Furthermore, Gmork asserts that… nothing gives greater power over men than lies, since men live by ideas… which can be guided: Why are some educators afraid that their children will become sincere, loyal people with a personality that has developed a “True Self”? The reasons are numerous. For example, family members may mistake a "true personality" for something to be repressed, because it cannot be kept under control; or they may be afraid to confront their own internal issues, which are revealed when they confront someone who speaks the truth. Furthermore, they fear resurfacing childhood afflictions, that have been repressed. Thus, they try to hide all this through a series of lies and coercion... which (as Michael Ende's story describes) can be guided and manipulated at will.

The Childlike Empress's medallion touches the forehead of the werewolf Gmork, and at that precise moment... the wolf's jaws open... freeing Atreyu's leg: The Childlike Empress's medallion, symbolizes the person who desires to return to himself, to rediscover his true identity. In this way, one must begin to free himself from the restrictive and coercive family conditioning… that has prevented his "True Self" from emerging and developing peacefully.

Finally, Bastian gives the Childlike Empress a beautiful "Name." Her name is... Moon Child: From an analytical perspective, Bastian giving the Childlike Empress a beautiful "Name"... symbolizes the individual who finally manages to rediscover himself, to assign a "Name" to his faculties and inner serenity. In essence, anyone who wishes to progress and improve… must understand their own limitations and strengths... without becoming discouraged by one or proud of the other. Once this psychic process is complete, they must organize all their internal resources and dynamics in a balanced way... directing them toward appropriate psychological, emotional and spiritual maturity.

The Childlike Empress explains to Atreyu, that she has brought their savior with her... who is Bastian. She also tells him that everything he has suffered, has been worthwhile... since Bastian has participated in all of his adventures: Frequently, we find ourselves feeling sorry for ourselves, because we don't comprehend why we have to face certain distressing or burdensome experiences. And we don't realize that frequently... it’s precisely these traumatic experiences, which help us develop our sensitivity, openness and empathy in understanding the torments of others. Consequently, we can console others more authentically, when we understand precisely... what they are suffering.

A personal growth isn't based solely on some phantom notions, learned through reading and study; often, a disappointment or a frustrating experience... can enrich us and help us better understand both our own abilities and our limitations.

Atreyu asks the Childlike Empress, why only a "new Name" can heal her. She replies that only the right Name, gives all creatures and things their reality. While the wrong name, makes everything unreal... this is what lies do: The "New Name" described in the narrative, highlights the fact that to find oneself... one must eliminate all the lies stored up in childhood, and serenely grasp one's true identity. In fact, the "False Self" is steeped in lies about oneself, one's inner feelings and emotions. In contrast, a person's true identity is based on the truth of one's feelings and emotions. Indeed, giving a new and correct "Name" to one's feelings and emotions... gives us a wonderful gift: ...being oneself with a True personality.

After uttering the name Moon Child, Bastian arrives in the realm of Fantasia. Among other things, Moon Child declares that Fantasia will be reborn from his desires and turn them into reality: We certainly cannot forget, that to accomplish any coherent and providential work or act, there must always be cohesion and synergy between the desires that arise from the Ego… and the unconscious forces; which are at the service of the so-called “internal objects”. Some of these “internal objects”, as we know... are the parental figures internalized from an early age; their function is to direct, facilitate, help and advise, the best path to follow... to reach a certain individual maturity.

In short, to face reality with balance and dynamism, one must have internalized constructive and benevolent internal objects; in this way, one is able to transform one’s desires... into reality. Therefore, the Childlike Empress in this context, embodies a good internalized mother, who is able to help the person's Ego (Bastian) to face reality… through its own intrinsic resources and faculties.

Moon Child gives a grain of sand to Bastian. Later, Bastian understands that it’s a seed... that begins to sprout. Finally, the seed becomes a small growing Star: The Childlike Empress also illustrates a good, sincere and affectionate mother, who has been able to guide her child towards healthy and balanced inner growth. This event occurs, when a mother understands that her child is NOT an extension of her own Ego... but is another person... with his own subjectivity, interests, ways of seeing, understanding, assimilating and so on. Conversely, overprotective, selfish and eccentric mothers, will never allow their offspring to develop their own aptitudes... but on the contrary, they will arrogantly try to instill in their children's minds... their beliefs, opinions, convictions and so on... manipulating them according to their own selfish needs and requirements.

We can also adjoin, that when we "sow" a good, creative or righteous thought in our minds and hearts, sooner or later, good and righteous fruits will surely sprout. And the same thing, happens when we "sow" inappropriate and negative feelings… in our hearts. It's no coincidence, that people who are constantly anxious, nervous or pessimistic, torment themselves with a thousand hostile and melancholy thoughts; these, over time, settle in the mind, until they bears fruit of despair and suffering. In other words, the message contained in Michael Ende's story, suggests we must pay attention to the nagging thoughts that, consciously or unconsciously, we put into our minds and hearts.

Bastian perceives in Moon Child's eyes, the image of a beautiful son of a King. And then, Bastian realizes that it’s him. After that, Bastian becomes that beautiful image he had seen in Moon Child's eyes: As we've already mentioned, the Childlike Empress Moon Child, is a metaphor for a caring, affectionate and balanced mother, who allows her child to build up all of his individual abilities and attributes to their full potential. On the other hand, if a mother is too presumptuous and self-centered, she will project onto her child... a false, negative and distorted image. This happens because the mother, with unresolved psychological issues, instead of giving love to her offspring... uses it to obtain the attention and care she has NOT received in her past. The conclusion of this psychological process, is obvious... the child will grow up with identity issues; and the perception he will have of himself… will be highly flawed, intangible, lacking and insecure (exactly how Bastian feels).

In short, Michael Ende's message is crystal clear… if a mother has a balanced and sincere attitude with her child, the latter will develop a healthy and balanced "True Self", which, just like a "King", will support the entire psychic apparatus. Nevertheless, if a mother is too anxious and overprotective… the descendant may weaken his subjective faculties, with the result of becoming an adult with personality problems.

Continuing with the interpretation of the narrative, we discover that even the relationship a mother establishes with her husband… can have repercussions on the child's normal emotional and affective development. In this regard, if a wife has a positive and constructive image of her husband (the image of the "King" that Bastian sees in Moon Child's eyes), this image will be translated and perceived by her son... as something to be embraced as a positive model for his own male sexual development. At this point, the process of identification that the son must accomplish, to achieve a balanced absorption of masculinity… occurs with pacification.

Quite the opposite, if a mother has tiny esteem and respect for her husband... the son may not absorb and see reflected in his mother's eyes... this fabulous "King"; but on the contrary... he will perceive and experience a debased, spineless and hostile individual. As we can imagine... it becomes difficult for the son, to identify with this type of debased and devalued masculine image. As a result of all this... the son, as he grows... will be unable to overcome some fundamental stages for the proper development of his own masculinity. With the consequence, of bringing a certain sexual confusion.

Alcuni che credevano di essere più sicuri, dopo aver visto nello specchio, un ghigno… sono scappati dal terrore: La narrazione, ci rammenta che se non si è sviluppata la propria vera identità, non ci si riconosce più. E si fugge via, lontano da sé stessi; concetto contemplato dallo psicologo Joseph Nicolosi, quando parla della persona gay che attua il distacco difensivo. Insomma, come può un fanciullo, identificarsi con un padre dispotico e privo di sensibilità? È un po’ come camminare a fianco di un’enorme e pietrosa… sfinge.

E quando si proverà a guardarsi dentro (specchio), che cosa si scruterà? Un ghigno mordace… proprio come il sorriso sarcastico che l'educatore ha dato al figlio, ogni volta che commetteva un errore o falliva in qualche incombenza. Difatti, a volte i genitori di persone con problemi di identità, sono soliti evidenziare nei discendenti… i loro sbagli ed errori; al contrario… fanno le “Sfingi” quando necessita dare consigli, suggerimenti e riconoscimenti. Da questo sconsolante quadretto di famiglia… ci meravigliamo che ci siano persone con problemi di identità?

Atreju nella “Seconda Porta”, scorge un ragazzetto grassoccio e bruttino, che è Bastiano. Atreju alla fine, entra nell'immagine dello specchio: Ma allora, che cosa intravede Atreju-Bastiano in suo padre? Nervosismo e disinteresse. Tutte essenze che non permettono ad un bambino (Atreju-Bastiano) di interiorizzare con armonia, la figura paterna. Questo ci testimonia come nell'inconscio, si è venuto a creare un “Distacco Difensivo”, il quale non permette di rapportarsi con la figura paterna in maniera bilanciata ed equilibrata. Insomma, Atreju-Bastiano intravede nello “specchio”, come il padre l’ha fatto sempre sentire… una nullità; ed altresì, Atreju è stato costretto ad eliminare o meglio allontanare, il proprio versante sensibile colmo di creatività (Bastiano), che non dimentichiamolo… è pieno di fantasia ed estro.

In questo contesto, Atreju che entra nello “specchio”, dove è riflesso Bastiano, raffigura il gay che nel partner cerca quel versante di se stesso, che in passato è stato annullato e annichilito, e non ha avuto modo di progredire e svilupparsi. In definitiva, a volte i rapporti sessuali tra persone dello stesso sesso, sono un modo inconscio per ritrovare quel versante perduto di sé stessi; con la vana speranza di rintracciare quell'unità interiore (Atreju-Bastiano), che purtroppo non ha avuto modo di concretizzarsi pienamente.

Atreju oltrepassato lo specchio, perde la memoria di sé, e delle sue intenzioni: In questa circostanza, Atreju è la persona che sin dalla tenera età, per sopravvivere… è stato costretto a mutare il proprio “Vero Sé”, mistificandolo in una nuova identità fittizia.

L'ultima porta (porta senza chiave e fatta di selenio fantasico, che è una sostanza indistruttibile), reagisce alla volontà della persona. È proprio la volontà, che lo rende così rigido. Ma se uno riesce a dimenticare ogni intenzione di passare, allora la porta si apre: Uno dei motivi del perché i gay non riescono a raggiungere una sessualità indirizzata verso il sesso opposto, risiede sovente in problematiche familiari NON risolte. In pratica, sin dall'infanzia ci sono state delle forze oscure che hanno deviato l'Io… dalla sua reale destinazione. E quali sono queste forze oscure? Una di queste, è la paura. Facciamo qualche esempio. Nell’infanzia, si può aver sperimentato angoscia di divenire come il proprio padre, che è stato troppo aggressivo, ingiusto o violento. Altre volte, si può aver sperimentato paura di tradire le aspettative di una madre castrante, la quale scrutava le fidanzate del figlio, come potenziali arpie… che avevano l'intento di portarle via al figlio. E quel terribile timore di non essere all'altezza di quel ruolo maschile, che è stato per tanti anni svilito e non accettato dai genitori? Insomma, la paura può benissimo arrestare un sano sviluppo della propria identità sessuale.

Atreju parla con l'oracolo Uyulala. Si sente la sua voce… ma non si vede; perché è invisibile. Uyulala spiega ad Atreju, che solo uno che viene dal “Mondo di Fuori”, può assegnare un Nome all'Infanta Imperatrice: Per ottenere un’identità sana e bilanciata (Nome all'Infanta Imperatrice), necessita che qualcuno al di “fuori” di noi (“Mondo di Fuori”) ci rassicuri, ci tenga per mano, ci dia fiducia in noi stessi. E chi sono questi individui, che ci possono agevolare nello sviluppare la nostra personalità? Semplice… i nostri genitori. Il “Nome” da donare all'Infanta Imperatrice, effigia il donare fiducia e serenità ad un figlio, nel momento in cui quest’ultimo lo si accoglie con amore e rispetto. In questo modo, la personalità del discendente, si svilupperà in un’identità vigorosa ed equilibrata.

Atreju giunto nella “Città dei Fantasmi”, incontra il lupo mannaro chiamato Mork. Mork è incatenato, e la cittadina è stranamente deserta: Le persone che hanno avuto dei familiari il cui amore era assente o precario, rischiano di ritrovarsi a livello latente, in una desolata “Città dei Fantasmi”, priva di amore. In questo contesto narrativo, dove la persona si ritrova senza una bussola interiore che la conduca ad accettarsi e volersi bene, può svilupparsi un nemico terribile… il “Falso Sé” (Mork). La desolazione della “Città dei Fantasmi”, simboleggia il deserto interiore di coloro che non sono stati accolti e amati dai loro familiari.

I cittadini della “Città dei Fantasmi”, sono fuggiti via… perché non avevano più Speranza. E non avere speranza, rende deboli le creature. Difatti, il “Nulla” ha una grande forza d'attrazione: Nel versante analitico, possiamo ricordare come un bambino che nel proprio habitat familiare non è stato accolto e rispettato per quello che è veramente… inizia a smarrire la speranza di poter sviluppare una sana individualità. In questo modo, proprio come i cittadini della “Città dei Fantasmi”, il proprio “Vero Sé” inizia a disintegrarsi e fuggire nei meandri dell’inconscio. E il bambino rischia di edificare una personalità fittizia, che è in grado di soddisfare le aspettative genitoriali. Questa personalità artificiosa, è raffigurata nel racconto… dal “Nulla” che desidera distruggere il regno di Fàntasia (reale personalità).

Entrare nel “Nulla”, è come essere ciechi, e non si distingue più l'apparenza dalla realtà. Ma una volta che si passa attraverso il “Nulla”, si diventa irriconoscibili. Gli abitanti della città caduti nel “Nulla”, diventano manie e idee fisse nella mente degli uomini; oppure immagini di angoscia e disperazione: Esattamente come ci viene descritto nel racconto di Michael Ende, coloro che sono costretti sin dalla tenera età a sviluppare ed edificare un “Falso Sé”, vivono la loro esistenza come dei ciechi che “sopravvivono” con una personalità che non è la loro. In sostanza, il “Falso Sé” è un aggregato psichico colmo di nozioni e regole falsate, imposte dai familiari… con la conseguenza di non vivere la propria esistenza psichica, in maniera armonica.

In definitiva, le manie e idee fisse descritte nella narrazione, ci evidenziano come coloro che hanno innalzato una falsa personalità… avranno problematiche psicologiche che si tramutano in stati di ansia eccessivi e angoscia; al contempo… la realtà sarà visualizzata in maniera distorta e alterata. Una delle conseguenze molto comuni, consiste nel travisare gli atteggiamenti e parole del prossimo, scrutandole e percependole quasi sempre… come essenze negative che cercano di destabilizzare. Tutto ciò, avviene poiché si proietta su altre persone… gli atteggiamenti castranti e coercitivi, patiti nell’infanzia dai propri educatori. In ultima analisi, le persone che incontriamo nella nostra vita, diventano degli specchi viventi, che riflettono gli atteggiamenti frustranti e fuorvianti dei nostri familiari.

Mork dichiara che gli uomini temono il regno di Fàntasia, e vogliono distruggerla… in tal modo accresce il flusso di menzogne che si rovescia nel mondo degli uomini. Inoltre, Mork asserisce che… niente dà maggior potere sugli uomini che la menzogna, poiché gli uomini vivono di idee… le quali si possono guidare: Perché alcuni educatori, hanno paura che i figli diventano persone sincere, leali e con una personalità che ha sviluppato un “Vero Sé”? I motivi sono molteplici. Ad esempio, i familiari possono errare nel giudicare una “reale personalità” come un qualcosa da reprimere, poiché non si riesce a tenere sotto controllo; oppure si ha timore di affrontare le proprie problematiche interiori, che vengono rivelate… quando si affronta una persona che dichiara la verità. Inoltre, si ha timore di far riaffiorare le afflizioni sperimentate nell’infanzia… le quali sono state rimosse. In questo modo, si cerca di occultare tutto questo, attraverso una serie di menzogne e coercizioni… le quali (come ci descrive il racconto di Michael Ende) possono essere guidate, manipolate e manovrate a piacimento.

Il medaglione dell'Infanta Imperatrice, sfiora la fronte del lupo mannaro Mork, e in quel preciso istante… la morsa dei denti del lupo, si apre… lasciando libera la gamba di Atreju: Il medaglione dell'Infanta Imperatrice, simboleggia la persona che desidera tornare se stessa, ritrovare la propria reale identità. In questo modo, si deve cominciare a slegarsi da quei condizionamenti familiari restrittivi e coercitivi, che hanno impedito al proprio “Vero Sé” di emergere e di svilupparsi serenamente.

Bastiano infine, dona un bellissimo “Nome” all'Infanta Imperatrice. Il nome è… Fiordiluna: Dal punto di vista analitico, Bastiano che dona un bellissimo “Nome” all'Infanta Imperatrice… simboleggia l'individuo che riesce finalmente a ritrovare se stesso, ad assegnare un “Nome” alle proprie facoltà e interiorità. In sostanza, ogni persona che desidera progredire e migliorarsi, deve comprendere i propri limiti e qualità… senza per questo abbattersi per gli uni o inorgoglirsi per gli altri. Compiuto questo procedimento psichico, necessita organizzare con equilibrio, tutte le proprie risorse e dinamiche interiori… indirizzandole verso un’appropriata maturità psichica emotiva e spirituale.

L’Infanta Imperatrice spiega ad Atreju, che ha portato con sé il loro salvatore… che è Bastiano. Inoltre, gli riferisce che tutto quello che ha sofferto, è servito… poiché Bastiano ha partecipato a tutte le sue avventure: Spesse volte, capita che ci piangiamo addosso, poiché non capiamo il motivo nel dover affrontare determinate esperienze angoscianti o gravose. E non ci rendiamo conto, che molto spesso… sono proprio queste esperienze traumatiche, che ci fanno sviluppare la nostra sensibilità, disponibilità ed empatia nel comprendere i tormenti del nostro prossimo. Ne consegue, che il nostro prossimo lo possiamo consolare con più autenticità, proprio quando comprendiamo con esattezza… quello che sta patendo.

La crescita personale di una persona, non si basa solo su alcune fantomatiche nozioni apprese mediante la lettura e lo studio; spesso e volentieri una delusione o un'esperienza frustrante… può arricchirci e farci comprendere meglio, sia le nostre facoltà che i nostri limiti.

Atreju chiede all'Infanta Imperatrice, perché solo un “Nome nuovo” può risanarla. Lei risponde che solo il Nome giusto, dona a tutte le creature e alle cose, la loro realtà. Mentre il “Nome” sbagliato, rende tutto irreale… questo è ciò che fa la menzogna: Il “Nome nuovo” descritto nella narrazione, ci evidenzia il fatto, che per ritrovare se stessi… occorre eliminare tutte le menzogne immagazzinate nella tenera età, e afferrare con serenità la propria reale identità. Difatti, il “Falso Sé” è impregnato di menzogne riguardo a se stessi, ai propri sentimenti ed emozioni interiori. Al contrario, la reale identità di una persona, è basata sulla verità dei propri sentimenti ed emozioni. Invero, dare un “Nome nuovo” e giusto, ai propri sentimenti ed emozioni… ci regala un dono meraviglioso: …essere se stessi con una Vera personalità.

Bastiano dopo aver proferito il “Nome” Fiordiluna, giunge al regno di Fàntasia. Oltre al resto, Fiordiluna dichiara che Fàntasia rinascerà dai suoi desideri, e li muterà in realtà: Non possiamo certo dimenticare, che per compiere qualunque opera o atto coerente e provvidenziale, ci deve sempre essere una coesione e sinergia tra i desideri che scaturiscono dall'Io e le forze inconsce; le quali sono a servizio dei cosiddetti oggetti interni. Alcuni di questi oggetti interni, come sappiamo… sono le figure genitoriali interiorizzate sin dalla tenera età; le quali hanno la funzione di indirizzare, agevolare, aiutare e consigliare, il percorso migliore da seguire… per raggiungere una determinata maturità individuale.

Insomma, per affrontare la realtà con equilibrio e dinamicità, occorre aver interiorizzato oggetti interni costruttivi e benevoli; in questo modo, si è in grado di trasformare i nostri desideri… in realtà. Pertanto, l'Infanta Imperatrice in questo ambito, effigia una madre buona interiorizzata, la quale è in grado di aiutare l'Io della persona (Bastiano), ad affrontare la realtà… mediante le proprie risorse e facoltà intrinseche.

Fiordiluna, dona un granello di sabbia a Bastiano. In seguito, Bastiano comprende che è un seme… che inizia a germogliare. Infine, il seme diventa una piccola Stella che cresce: L'Infanta Imperatrice, illustra altresì una madre buona, sincera ed affettuosa, che ha saputo indirizzare il proprio figlio verso una sana ed equilibrata crescita interiore. Questo evento, si verifica quando una madre comprende che il proprio figlio NON è un’estensione del proprio Io… ma è un'altra persona… con la propria soggettività, i propri interessi, i propri modi di vedere, comprendere, assimilare e così via. Al contrario, le madri troppo iperprotettive, egoiste ed eccentriche, non permetteranno mai ai propri discendenti, di sviluppare le proprie attitudini… ma al contrario, cercheranno di instillare con arroganza nella mente dei loro figli… delle loro credenze, opinioni, convinzioni e quant'altro… manipolando i figli a seconda dei loro bisogni e necessità egoistici.

Possiamo inoltre aggiungere, che quando “seminiamo” nella nostra mente e nel nostro cuore, un pensiero buono, creativo o giusto… sicuramente prima o poi, germoglieranno frutti buoni e giusti. E lo stesso evento, accade quando “seminiamo” nel nostro cuore, sentimenti inopportuni e negativi. Non a caso, le persone che sono sempre ansiose, nervose o pessimiste… si tormentano in mille pensieri ostili e colmi di malinconia; i quali con il tempo, sedimentano nella mente, fino a portare frutti di disperazione e sofferenza. In altre parole, il messaggio contenuto nel racconto di Michael Ende, ci suggerisce di fare attenzione ai pensieri assillanti che consapevolmente o meno, immettiamo nella nostra mente e nel nostro cuore.

Bastiano negli occhi di Fiordiluna, percepisce l'immagine di un bellissimo figlio di Re. E, poi comprende che è lui. Dopodiché, Bastiano diventa quella bellissima immagine che aveva visto negli occhi di Fiordiluna: Come abbiamo già accennato, l'Infanta Imperatrice Fiordiluna è una metafora di una madre disponibile, affettuosa ed equilibrata, che permette al proprio figlio di sviluppare con fruibilità, tutte le capacità e attributi individuali. All'opposto, se una madre è troppa presuntuosa e incentrata su se stessa, ecco che proietterà sul proprio figlio… un'immagine falsata, negativa e distorta. Questo avviene poiché la madre con problemi psicologici NON risolti, invece di donare amore al discendente… se ne serve per ricavarne le attenzioni e cure, che NON ha avuto nel suo passato. La conclusione di questo processo psichico, è ovvia… il figlio crescerà con problemi di identità; e la percezione che avrà di se stesso… sarà altamente difettosa, impalpabile, carente ed insicura (esattamente, come si sente Bastiano).

In breve, il messaggio di Michael Ende è cristallino… se una madre ha un atteggiamento equilibrato e sincero con il proprio figlio, quest’ultimo maturerà un sano e bilanciato “Vero Sé”, il quale proprio come un “Re”, sarà di sostegno per tutto l'apparato psichico. Tuttavia, se una madre è troppo ansiosa ed iperprotettiva… il discendente potrà affievolire le proprie facoltà soggettive, con il risultato di divenire un adulto con problemi di personalità.

Proseguendo con l'interpretazione della narrazione, scopriamo che perfino il rapporto che la madre instaura con il proprio marito, può avere delle ripercussioni sul normale sviluppo emotivo ed affettivo del figlio. A questo riguardo, se una moglie ha del proprio marito un’immagine positiva e costruttiva (immagine di “Re” che Bastiano scorge negli occhi di Fiordiluna), ecco che questa immagine verrà traslata e percepita dal figlio… come un qualcosa da accogliere come modello positivo per il proprio sviluppo sessuale maschile. A questo punto, il processo di identificazione che il figlio deve compiere, per ottenere e raggiungere un equilibrato assorbimento della mascolinità, avviene con pacificazione.

Al contrario, se una madre ha poca stima e scarso rispetto per il proprio marito… il discendente può non assorbire e vedere riflesso negli occhi della madre… questo favoloso “Re”; ma all’opposto… percepirà ed avvertirà un individuo svilito, senza spina dorsale e avverso. Come possiamo immaginare… per il figlio diviene difficoltoso identificarsi con questo tipo di immagine maschile svilita e deprezzata. In conseguenza di tutto ciò… il figlio, crescendo… non sarà in grado di superare alcune tappe fondamentali per un corretto sviluppo della propria mascolinità. Con la conseguenza, di portare avanti… una certa confusione sessuale.
